Ingredients:
- 5 cups sliced, peeled apples
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Arrange apple slices in an 8-inch square baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix together flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
2. Apple Pie
Ingredients:
- 1 recipe pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 6-7 cups sliced, peeled apples
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
- Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over top of the apples. Cover with a top crust, and cut slits in the top. Seal the edges of the crust.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350°F, and continue baking for 35-45 minutes.
